Who am I?

I have been aided and deeply influenced by others in my life, and I hope to be able to return this in my work.

I came to psychotherapy and counseling later in life after years of working in the restaurant industry and some stints as a freelance artist and designer. I decided I wanted to work one-on-one with individuals to help them heal, grow, and look within themselves. This decision was part of my own search for meaning and purpose. I have the unshakable belief that we all have the full capacity for actualization and fulfillment in our lives as engaged human beings living in tune with the world. Getting to that place can be hard to do on one’s own. It was for me. Helping others through this journey is the main focus of what I do in my practice.

We live in extremely polarized and divisive times. I emphatically believe that that the politicization of the therapeutic process is to be avoided. I work with clients as individuals, traversing belief, ideological orientation, or world view.

For many there comes a time when we find ourselves in a dark and seemingly inescapable place in our lives. The road back, or the new road out, can be challenging to find and traverse.  However, I firmly believe we can travel this path, and this journey is often the focus of the work I do with my clients.

While there are serious and concerning issues we may look at in therapy, it can also be a place for humor and joy. The things we are entertained by and are fond of many times say a lot about us. I am a bit of a geek, as well as a certified therapeutic game master, and spaceships, music, pop culture, cute animals, rare hobbies and specialized interests are more than welcome topics of discussion.

I have been deeply helped and influenced by others and I hope to be able to return this in my work. While there are serious and concerning issues we look at in therapy, I also feel that it is a place for humor, insight, and joy. I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together.
